Throughout this career, she had various brushes with jazz: she was featured on the S2S Records jazz compilation albums Absolute Voices (2009) and Oriental Jazz (2013) and recorded several jazz originals on her debut album “完美之旅” (“Perfect Journey”) which in 2011 had her nominated as Singapore’s best local artist and best new artist. That same year, Juliet Pang decided to intensify and develop her interest in jazz studying jazz piano as part of her graduate studies at the Australian Institute of Music with Sydney pianist David McRae (who played with Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan and Chet Baker to name a few). During this intensive period of study, she not only learnt jazz piano but also new harmonies and reharmonisation techniques that she would later apply in her jazz explorations, culminating in the release of the debut EP of her jazz quartet White Noise in 2012.
